BOMBI, ANDREA |

Biography | ||
I studied "Lettere moderne" at the Università degli Studi in Padova (Italy), the city where I was born in 1964. I was fortunate to count among my teachers Gianfranco Folena (History of the Italian Language), Alberto Limentani (Romance Philology), Armando Balduino and Cesare Galimberti (Italian Literature), and especially Lorenzo Renzi (Romance Philology) and Giulio Cattin. With Professor Cattin I studied History of Music, and under his direction I elaborated my "tesi di laurea" (thesis), entitled Madrigali su sonetti petrarcheschi d'un solo periodo (1990), in which I examine musical settings of a peculiar group of sonnets that Professor Renzi singled out in Petrarch's Canzoniere. Between 1990 and 1998 I continued my research in the line undertaken with the "tesi di laurea", and published many essays and critical editions. In 1995 I began my collaboration with Juan José Carreras, in the research group that gathered around his PhD courses at the University of Zaragoza. Professor Carreras directed my doctoral thesis, Entre tradición y modernización: el "italianismo" musical en Valencia (1685-1738), read in 2002 and published in volume by the Institut Valencià de la Música in 2011. In it I investigate the Italian cultural influence in the musical field – especially operatic and sacred vocal music – in the crucial period between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. My interest in issues of methodology (in particular linked to urban musicology) and musical historiography also was expressed in contact with Juan José Carreras, an interest that has materialized in two collective volumes, published by the University of Valencia in 2005 and 2010. After the defence of the thesis, I have continued to research mainly in topics of local history of music – focused from the perspective of urban musicology – and the interdisciplinary field of the relationship between poetry and music, dealing with genres such as the baroque villancico, oratorio and opera in numerous papers and articles and editions. My philological interests have been mainly in the teaching of language – at a practical and theoretical level – and Italian literature, in subjects of a propaedeutic nature (Introduction to literary texts, Italian literature and culture I) and more specialized content (Narrative studies). And also in studies and presentations focused on late baroque school theatre and translation problems. I have been a professor in different institutions such as the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya ("History of opera", among other subjects) and the University of La Rioja (different subjects of the degree in History and Music Sciences). I am a professor at the University of Valencia, with different contracts, since 1997, and Associate Professor since 2017. |
