Last Thursday, May 18, the students of the last courses of the Degree in Information and Documentation of the University of Valencia made an interesting visit to the city of Madrid in order to broaden their knowledge about the operation, organization, services and processes of automation of two large institutions: the National Library of Spain and the Archive of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. In them, the people in charge of the library and archives prepared some guided tours for us.

We divided into two groups of 20 people to make the visit more personalized, and this allowed us to see first-hand the importance of the tasks carried out to preserve, manage and disseminate the bibliographic and documentary heritage, as well as expand the concepts learned in the Degree . The coordinating teachers who accompanied us on this visit and were part of this experience together with us were Adolfo Alonso Arroyo and Gema Capilla Aledón, responsible for the Center Automation and Archiving II subjects respectively.

At all times, we were wonderfully cared for, being able to ask questions about the operation of the services, the tasks carried out by professionals in our discipline and knowing curiosities and the history of these two emblematic institutions. In addition, the students were able to enjoy a short break between visits, which allowed us to explore the city of Madrid a bit and take advantage of visiting a museum, coinciding with International Museum Day.

All this allowed us to spend time improving our coexistence as a group and as classmates. We are very grateful to the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia for the facilities that have made this trip possible, and we hope that in the future activities like this can continue to be carried out, since they are enriching for the students, both in terms of life experience as learning in their training.
