The Universitat de València is in the second place in the field of Chemical research and the fifth in Physics research out of the Spanish universities. This list is elaborated according to the number of scientific articles in magazines of great interest, according to the ‘Nature Index’ ranking. The institution is only surpassed by Universitat de Barcelona, while the CSIC is the entity with a higher production at a national level. In Physics, the UV is the fifth Spanish university and also the first one in Valencia.
'Nature Index' presents the affiliation of scientific articles with high quality in 68 magazines in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, Environmental and Earth Sciences and Life Sciences. The ranking (www.natureindex.com) shows the efficiency of the results of the researches by institutions, countries and geographic areas and analyses periods of a year, in this case from the 1 December 2014 to 30 November 2015. Taking into account the weighted fractional count (WFC), which considers that all the authors of an article have equally contributed to it, the Universitat de València is positioned as the second Spanish higher education centre in the field of Chemistry, at a short distance from the first position, occupied by Universitat de Barcelona.
At European level, the Universitat is number 36 and in the global ranking, it is 146. In this area Nature Index has considered magazines like Nature and its group, apart from Science, PNAS, JACS, Agewandte, Chem.Comm, Chemical Science, Advanced Materials, Nanoletters o ACS Nano. And among the most specialised ones, it includes the magazines with the greatest impact: Analytical Chemistry, Organic Letters and Inorganic Chemistry.
Chemical research by the Universitat de València is mainly made in the Faculty of Chemistry, the Institute of Molecular Science, the Institute of Material Science, the Faculty of Physics or the Faculty of Medicine, among others.
In Physics, the UV is the fifth Spanish university and also the first one in Valencia. At a European level it is number 101 and at a global level it is number 458. Analysing the impact of the Universitat in the areas that the ranking takes into account, the production in the field of Chemistry represents the 60% of the total and Physics more than the 20%.
International collaboration of the Universitat
In the ranking it is necessary to highlight that the scientific production of the Universitat de València with international entities and centres achieves the 78.32% of its total production, and that the main institutions with which it colaborates are the NRS (France), el CERN (Switzerland), University of Calabria (Italy) and Oxford University (United Kingdom).
The first place of the ranking at global level in Chemisty is occupied by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, followed by the French CNRS and the German Max Planck Society. The first European university in Chemistry is the University of Oxford, that occupies the 13 place of the classification and the CSIC is number 71. In Physics, the order of the international organisations is the same and the University of Cambridge is the first one of the European universities, occupying the 9 place. The CSIC is number 24.
