Jose M. Costa-Fernandez is a Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry in Oviedo University (Spain) and coordinator of the Analytical and Bioanalytical Research Group. After completing the PhD in Analytical Chemistry in December 1998, during the period 1999-2000 was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Indiana (USA). After the return to the University of Oviedo, the research that has been developing more recently is focused mainly in two topics: 1. Development of photoluminescent (bio)sensors based on nanomaterials. 2.- Use of elemental mass spectrometry for the characterization and detection of inorganic nanoparticles in Bioanalytical applications. To date, has supervised 12 doctoral thesis (already defended) and is supervising another 4 Ph.D. thesis (in progress). Author of more than 125 scientific publications in refereed (JCR) journals (mainly in the field of Analytical Chemistry, but also in the field of Multidisciplinary Chemistry) plus 15 book chapters and 2 patents related to the development of scientific instrumentation. About 85 % of the publications are indexed by JRC in the highest Quartile, Q1 (among the top 25% of the Impact Factor distribution) in the corresponding JCR category. Served as Invited Editor of several special issues of Scientific Journals. In recent years, he has personally presented more than 20 invited talks in international scientific conferences. Management experience includes: vice-Dean of chemistry in the Faculty of chemistry of the University of Oviedo from October 2008 until October 2016, Coordinator of the Master in analytical and bioanalytical sciences of the University of Oviedo from February 2017 and continues, Vice-president of the Spanish Society for Applied Spectroscopy during the last 7 yeares, Member of the Government board of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry from January 2018 and serves in the Editorial Board of Spectrochimica Acta part B (Elsevier).
