Training objectives
Learning objectives:
- 1. To provide EMI lecturers with key linguistic and pedagogical tools for classroom management.
- 2. To gain knowledge of a range of practical skills for delivering instruction in English.
Contents
Course contents:
- 1. Course introduction. EMI overview. Contextual, linguistic, motivational and methodological aspects.
- 2. Teaching discourse (I). Communicative strategies. Planning and organising a lecture. Designing course materials.
- 3. Teaching discourse (II). Lecture signposting and delivery. Functional language for lectures.
- 4. EMI classroom dynamics. The language of classroom management: organising and monitoring practical sessions and group work, seminars, tutorials, and supervision. Providing feedback and evaluation.
Competencies to be developed
- 1 To use communicative strategies to plan and organize the contents of lectures in English.
- 2 To effectively use functional language in English for lecture signposting and delivery.
- 3 To use classroom management techniques in English for different lecture types: practical sessions, group work, seminars and tutorials.
- 4 To provide constructive feedback and evaluation in English.
