Specific Support and Guidance Bodies and Services of the Master’s Degree
Welcome and Guidance for Students
The academic year begins with a welcome event in which the Master’s Management presents the characteristics and organisation of the course, and introduces the members of the Master’s Academic Coordination Committee and the rest of the teaching staff.
The Master’s Management and the members of the Academic Coordination Committee will directly assist students with any questions or issues related to management or administration that may arise during the beginning and development of the course.
If support actions for students with special needs are required, they will be carried out in collaboration with the UVEG services dedicated to this purpose.
Student Tutoring
According to UVEG regulations, the Master’s Academic Coordination Committee must assign a tutor (professor) to each student at the beginning of the course. This tutor, in addition to providing guidance and advice, will help the student to choose the Master’s Thesis topic to be developed.
The procedure used in the Master’s in Remote Sensing is as follows:
At the beginning of the course, each student will be assigned an academic tutor by the Master’s Academic Coordination Committee, subject to the tutor’s acceptance.
All professors of the Master’s have the opportunity, at the beginning of each academic year, to offer a minimum of one and a maximum of three topics to act as supervisors of the Master’s Thesis for one or more students, depending on the number of topics offered.
The list of topics and supervisors must be approved by the Academic Coordination Committee.
All lecturers authorised to teach on the Master’s programme may participate in the supervision of the Master’s Thesis; however, if the lecturer does not have a permanent position at UVEG, a co-supervisor who is a UVEG lecturer must be appointed.
The academic tutor of each student will act as an advisor and contact person within the programme, facilitating integration into the studies and providing guidance throughout the course, assisting in the selection of the Master’s Thesis topic.
Student Representation Bodies
According to UVEG regulations, Master’s students may stand as candidates for the Department Council responsible for the Master’s programme in the corresponding annual elections.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the academic year, the Master’s Management encourages students to select a representative to act as class delegate in order to facilitate the resolution of any problems that may arise, convey suggestions, etc. This representation, although unofficial, has the advantage of being operational from the start of the academic year and, at the same time, prepares the selected person to stand as an official candidate for the Council.
Student representation is highly recommended, since, in addition to allowing the expression of their interests or concerns, it helps the Master’s Management to improve the programme’s management and, in subsequent editions, to avoid potential issues and enhance the teaching and organisational process of the Master’s.
