Poster of the project 'Body Positivity'

Until 31st May, you can visit the poster exhibition of the FORTHEM project “Body Positivity – in response to body shaming” in the former Teacher Training College “Ausias March”, headquarters of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teacher Training.

Aim of the project

It is common to find unattainable models of beauty both in advertising and in social media. As a consequence, part of the population feels dissatisfied with their bodies. The project targets young people, who tend to be one of the groups most prone to body shaming, and aims to raise their awareness of these unattainable beauty ideals and their possible health consequences.

Team

The project team consists of Katarzyna Molek-Kozakowska (Department of English, University of Opole), Mateusz Szubert (Department of Cultural Studies, University of Opole), María Roncero (Faculty of Psychology, UV), Gemma García-Soriano (Faculty of Psychology, UV), Juan Carlos Casañ (Faculty of Teacher Education, UV) as well as BA and MA degree students.

Participation of students of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teacher Training

The structure of the poster was designed by a group of the subject “Teaching innovation and introduction to educational research in the speciality of the English language”. Subsequently, they shared readings and videos related to the ‘Body Positivity’ movement and reflected and debated on the topic. Finally, students designed posters and infographics to raise awareness on body positivity. The vast majority of the students rated their participation in the project positively and considered it important to introduce this topic in the English classroom.

A selection of the posters designed by students will be on display at the headquarters of the Master’s Degree. The works will also be exhibited at the University of Opole.

Funding

The project is funded by the FORTHEM Alliance (ERASMUS+ European Universities Project, Reference 612489-EPP-1-2019-1-DE-EPPKA2-EUR-UNIV).
