The practicum materials for the Department of Geology of the Universitat de València are formed by two different collections. The first one are mineral and stone samples used for General Geology. The second one comprises the remnants of fossil organisms studied in Palaeontology and other related subjects.
Most part of the collections are formed by samples collected in the last fifty years by several professors and collaborators of the Department as well as by students’ donations and, in the case of stones, by marble, ornamental stones or building companies. Most samples – stones, minerals, fossils – come from the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands. In some cases, they are foreign materials, especially some ornamental stones.
