The Entomology Collection of the UV has its origin in a donation of material from the old City Museum of the own university. In the 19th century, the Natural History Cabinet of the Universitat de València was founded. Since this moment, there are evidences about the materials of this field. In 1932, a fire devastated all the samples that it had until the moment. As a response to this disaster, donations by particulars and institutions are accepted and together with the research’s work of the time, it is possible to collect a large number of samples.

In 2001, as a result of a flood suffered by the facilities where it was located, it is very small. Since this moment, year after year, it increases its funds as a result of the incorporations that the researchers of the entomology group contribute annually.

The entomology collection includes material from Iberian fauna, Palaearctic fauna and Neotropical fauna. About the arrangement of material inside the collection, we can observe: General Collection (several orders); Báguena Collection (Beetle), Koschabek Collection (Lepidoptera), N.H Madsen (Lepidoptera), Universidad Politécnica’s Collection (Lepidoptera) and Material Neotropical’s and Asian Collection (Lepidoptera); Comparison Collections of the families Braconidae and Eulophidae (Hymenoptera).

The new additions resulting from ongoing research mainly comprise culicidae diptera, Hymenoptera braconidae and Lepidoptera, expanding, in certain cases, the collected material to the conservation of tissues for molecular studies, Collection of Tissues (DNA), Collection in Humid and Collection of associated Microscopic Preparations

The entomological collection is in growth and makes regular exchanges with other institutions. Many of the funds have been digitized and recently computerized, and can be consulted through the portal of the Biodiversity Data Bank of the Valencian Community (BDBCV) and / or the GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility).
