Bees and other pollinators are increasingly threatened by human actions.
To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the United Nations declared May 20 “World Bee Day”.
A great diversity of bees is crucial to ensure the pollination of crops.
Pollinators contribute directly to food security, are essential to conserve biodiversity and are used to alert us to new environmental risks, indicating the health of local ecosystems.
Good pollination of crops requires the joint action of social bees and wild bees to maximize production.
These wild bees are mainly solitary and do not congregate in hives, but rather create nests in branch voids, wood openings, or in tunnels in the ground, constituting about 95% of the species.
It is for this reason, that from the Museum we propose an activity to commemorate the day of the bees. Create our own "hotel for useful insects".
With this small gesture, you will facilitate a multitude of beneficial insects for crops, among which are solitary bees, ladybugs, green lacewings, ... find shelter in your garden...
