The Autonomic Championship of University Sports (CADU) continues this weekend. On Saturday 1 April, the University of Alicante will hold a taekwondo competition. On Sunday 2 April, the trail race will be celebrated there coinciding with the well-known 3 Pics de Vilamarxant.

The Universitat de València will bring 29 athletes to Alicante and 19 of them will compete in the absolute category. Among those 19 are the ones who will be chosen to compete in the Spanish University Championship (CEU) organised by UNED on 22 and 23 April. Other 10 promising athletes, in the promotion category, all of them students of the Taekwondo School of the Universitat.

“The Universitat always gets a position on the podium and I expect it to not change this year. Our team is young, so anything could happen. I hope everyone enjoy the competition and do their bests in every combat. If they end up happy, I will too”, says team selector Karina Dosantos. And she should: last year, the team came back home holding seven golden medals, six silvers and four bronzes.

Eight athletes in the Vilamarxant trail race
This year, the autonomic trail competition coincides with the famous 3 Pics de Vilamarxant competition, a mountain race designed for quick runners. Despite this difficulty, the team selector of the Universitat de València Rubén Picazo recognises that he has “high” expectations when it comes to CADU: “Our team is really great and they will raise the level of the competition”, he states.

Six runners will take part in the male category. Rafael Garcés is one of them ─ he was on the top 10 last year in La Aneto, the Great Trail Competition par excellence. In the female category, Picazo’s team has two athletes, among them Lidia Hernández, who won in the students category the 6th UV Race last Sunday.

Rubén Picazo’s selection won in the female category two years ago and got to the male podium. In 2017, they come back with “a great team to compete for classification”.
