UV participated FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball in Brazil

Universitat de València completed a remarkable participation at FISU University World Cup 3x3 Basketball, celebrated in Brasilia (Brazil), earning the fourth position in the male category and sixth position in the female cateogry.

Male team: one step short to the medals

 

The male team under Jaume Tormo made it to the group C, where he faced the University of Chile and USIU - Africa (Kenya). After the group phace, the team advanced throughout the qualifying rounds:

  • Round of 16: Victory against University of Sevilla (16-21)
  • Round of 8: Victory against University of Puerto Rico (17-13)
  • Semifinals: Defeat against the eventual winner Vytautas Magnus University
  • Third place match: Defeat against University of Melbourne (12-21)

These results put UV in a well-deserved 4th position, an improvement against last year's 7th position in Xiamen (China).

 

Female team: competitivity and remarkable presence

 

The female team training under Juanjo Medina also started in group C against University of Payame Noor (Iran) and University of Carleton (Canada) Their advancement in the tournament was:

  • Victory against Payame Noor (20-10)
  • Defeat against Carleton (17-19)
  • Round of 16: Victory against Paulist University (19-14)
  • Round of 8: Defeat against Christian University of Uganda (16-20)

The team finished in sixth place, also improving on last year's result, when the UV came tenth in the women's category. In addition to the strong sporting performance of both teams, player Lorena Segura was crowned champion of the Three-Point Contest, beating representatives from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST, China), the University of Tasmania (Australia) and the University of Chile.

With these results, the University of Valencia reaffirms its presence and competitiveness in international university basketball, standing out both for the collective performance of its teams and for the individual successes of its players. Participation in Brazil consolidates the international profile of UV university sport and sets a benchmark for future competitions.
