The University of Alacant will host the teams next Thursday.
The women's 7-a-side football and rugby teams will meet next Thursday at the University of Alacant facilities to dispute the second session of the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU) that for these sports is disputed on a concentration format throughout the tomorrow session.
The women’s rugby team will set up the fixture at 11:30 with a match against the Catholic University of Valencia, a match a match that will generate great excitement due to the level of competition both teams always show on the field of play. “Every time we play against the Catholic I get nervous” said Ana Aigneren, rugby team coach at the Universitat, “they have many good players competing in the federated league, but I guess the match will depend on the girls who travel to Alicante. We all get some players out in long distance journeys because of their academic and work obligations”.
The second match will be at 13:00 against the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. The Universitat’s coach foresees the match “affordable if we do the right thing, the Elche team is going through a renovation process but still has some veteran players, so we can not relax. Our aim is to keep the trophy, so the girls are training with great commitment and enthusiasm. Now we must fulfil our goals on the field of play, no matter who is our opponent”.
On the other hand, women’s seven-a-side football team face the Universitat Politècnica de València at 12:00. The Universitat’s team won 2-1 the University of Alacant in the previous CADU meeting and, according to the coach Andrés Menchero, “girls tackle this fixture being aware of a victory will bring us closer to lift the Trophy”.
Regarding the opponent, the Universitat Politècnica de València, Menchero is cautious “in my experience, the UPV is a competitive team, so you must be on guard, in sporting terms. In previous seasons, it has been a very competitive team and can create difficulties, so we are very concentrated for the match. The team is aware of the importance of getting a good result. This match bring us the opportunity of taking a giant step forward on winning the CADU, so we cannot afford to miss it”.
The Physical Education and Sports Service will cover the events live and follow up the teams throughout the official social networks (Twitter and Facebook) in which it will inform all its followers on the results of the matches.
