Frequently Asked Questions by INCOMING students of the Degree in Chemistry

If you have been nominated as a student of the Degree in Chemistry of the University of Valencia under the Erasmus Study Programme, the following questions and answers will be of interest to you:

1.- Who can answer my academic questions (about the subjects to study, credits, etc)?

The academic coordinator of the Degree in Chemistry is Rafael Ballesteros Garrido (quimicamovilidad@uv.es). He will be glad to solve your academic doubts but, please, check first that your doubt has not been already answered in this list of FAQs. If your question is not of academic nature (administrative procedures, visa requirements, accommodation, etc) visit the web page of the International Relations office or write to incoming@uv.es.

2.- Which courses from the Degree in Chemistry can I take?

The list of available courses can be found here. Every course from that list can be taken by Erasmus incoming students with the exception of the course “External Internships” (with code 34212).

3.- Can I include laboratory modules in my learning agreement?

Yes, but places are limited. Make sure you indicate in Table A of your learning agreement in which group you prefer to be enrolled, but check the schedules of the courses first (see questions 10 to 12 in this FAQ section).

4.- In which language are the courses of the Degree in Chemistry taught?

Most courses are taught in Spanish or Valencian. If you want to know the language of a particular course and group, go to the list of courses and click on "Check info" for the course you are interested in. Then, select a particular group. The language of instruction will appear below.

5.- Can I take courses from different Degrees (other than the Degree in Chemistry)?

Yes, you can take courses from other Bachelor Degrees, taking into account that:

(a) The acceptance in other Bachelor Degree courses depends on the Faculty responsible for that Degree, which may have a limited number of places available.

(b) As you have been nominated by your home university as a student of the Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, at least 50% of the total number of ECTS credits that you take in the University of Valencia (i.e. the ones you must include in Table A of your learning agreement) must belong to the curriculum of the Bachelor Degree in Chemistry.

6.- Can I take courses from a Master Degree?

Mixing Master and Bachelor courses is not allowed by our internal regulations. Therefore, if you have been nominated by your home university as a student of the Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, you can only take Bachelor courses. If you wish to take Master courses only, you should ask to your home university to nominate you as a student of a Master Degree. This requires the existence of a bilateral agreement with that Master Degree (ask your local coordinators about it).

7.- Is there a minimum number of ECTS credits that I must take in the University of Valencia?

Yes. If your stay is for one semester you must take at least a total of 18 ECTS credits (with a maximum of 36 ECTS). If your stay if for the whole academic year, the minimum is 36 and the maximum 72 ECTS.

8.- Can I include language courses in my learning agreement?

No. There are no language courses in the curriculum of the Degree in Chemistry. Incoming students willing to attend a Spanish course during their stay in Valencia will have to manage their enrolment in a language academy themselves (and independently of their learning agreement). One possibility is the “Centre d’Idiomes” (a language school associated to the University of Valencia) which, at the request of the student, will issue a certificate of the language course attended. Please, note that such language certificate is a separate document from the Transcript of Records issued by the Faculty of Chemistry, which will only contain information about the courses listed in the learning agreement.

9.- Where can I found the contents of the courses?

Go to the list of available courses of the Degree in Chemistry. Then, click on "Check info" for the course you are interested in, and then click on “Teaching guide”. A pdf file containing the information will pop up.

10.- Are the schedules of the courses available?

The schedules of the courses are usually published in the web during the month of June. You can check here if they are ready. An alternative way to check the timetable of an individual course is visiting the list of courses and clicking on “check info”.

It is convenient to check the schedules of the courses before you fill your learning agreement, in order to avoid possible timetable overlaps between different courses.

11.- What does “subgroups T0, U1, U2,…” mean?

When you click on “check info” for a particular course of the Degree in Chemistry, a window will pop up in which you can see the existing groups for that course (A, B, C, …). Once you select one group you will see that there are a number of subgroups called T0, U1, U2, etc. Subgroups labelled as T0 correspond to theoretical classes of obligatory attendance. Subgroups labelled as U1, U2, etc. correspond to tutorial classes, and you have to attend to one of them only. Some courses may also have subgroups labelled as L1, L2, etc. These subgroups indicate that the corresponding course involves laboratory work also. You have to attend to one of them only.

12.- Should I include the group (A, B, C, etc.) in which I would like to be enrolled in my learning agreement?

Yes, but check first the schedules of the courses to ensure that you do not choose groups that overlap.

13.- Is there a deadline to send my learning agreement?

Yes, please send your learning agreement to the academic coordinator (quimicamovilidad@uv.es) before the 21 of June (for a 1st semester stay) or 29 of January (for a 2nd semester stay).

14.- I have some questions related with the visa requirements, health insurance, etc. What should I do?

If your question is not of academic nature (administrative procedures, visa requirements, accommodation, etc.) please visit the web page of the International Relations office or write to incoming@uv.es.
