Poster of the competition

In addition to the 41st edition of the drawing competition dedicated to the King James I of Aragon’s (organised by the department store El Corte Inglés), the Confucius Institute of the UV will organise a drawing contest with the motto “Confucio llega a Valencia por la Ruta de la Seda” (“Confucius arrives in Valencia through the Silk Road”). The College of High Silk Art and UNESCO Centre of Valencia will collaborate on this event.

This competition is based on a story specially written for this event. The story makes reference to the Silk Road and is connected to the recognition of Valencia as Silk City 2016 by UNESCO. The story also extols the character of Confucius, who arrives in Valencia, at some kind of magic world, where imagination inspires the exchange and fusion between cultures. His arrival in the city coincides with the Valencian celebration of 9 October (although both events are many centuries apart!). For those who want to participate, you can pick up your folder, which contains a piece of card. Inspired by the story “Confucius arrives in Valencia for the Silk Road”, you will need to draw on the card. According to the basis of the competition, the best drawings will be awarded and displayed at El Corte Inglés. A folder containing information and a card for drawing will be given to pupils attending this academic year at the Confucius Institute during this week and the following. Pupils attending from 1st grade of Primary School until 2nd grade of ESO (either from the Confucius Institute or not) can participate in the contest. Therefore, there is open call for participants from all over Valencia. For more information, please refer to the basis of the competition http://www.uv.es/confucioweb/pdfs/Basesycuento-RED.pdf

The drawing must be delivered at the Confucius Institute, headquartered in C/ Blasco Ibañez, 32, first floor of Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication before 18 October 2016 (Opening hours: from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 h to 14:00 h. Also Tuesday and Thursday, from 16:00 h to 19:00 h).
