Conference: China and its cultural promotion through UNESCO

Next Friday 10 June, Andrea Pappier (from Confucius Institute of the National University of La Plata) will give a conference. He will make a historical revision of China’s main landmarks and its participation with Confucius Institute from its beginnings until the present. Andrea Pappier will use UNESCO documentation and its headquarters in Beijing as source in order to parse its local, regional and international scopes in the cultural area. At the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication at 19:30 h. (Sala de Juntas, first floor).

China is one of the member countries of the UNESCO which stands out because of its participation in culture promotion. It has ratified 13 international conventions, among which are the convention on World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding and Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. China has 47 World Heritage places, 38 elements registered in Intangible Cultural Heritage lists, 32 biosphere reserves and 9 registrations in the Memory of the World Register. Important cities: Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Beijing are part of the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO. It has also supported important international projects, highlighting the ones in Silk Road.
