The Botanical Exhibition Hall hosts, from Tuesday, 26 March, the exhibition 'Negre sobre blanc o el Jardí somiat' [Black on white or the dreamt Garden] by Nuria Ferriol. The artist makes a pictorial proposal that is presented surrounded by the colors in the title. Her work is of large format and is inspired by nature, her memory, the gardens and the impressions left in the retina and memory. The opening ceremony will be at 20:00.
They are paintings and drawings which, for three years, have emerged from a fragmented view of the natural environment, which in this case is shown in black and white, looking for its essence. Drawings reminiscent of early photography, fuzzy contours, where black and white blend, and end up giving a seemingly unfocused image yet suggestive.
The lines suggest branches, roots, trees, ultimately, an experience to look up and see how the sky is filtered through the trees. The result becomes a copy of the natural reality but it reminds of plant forms already known, offering a timeless look into internalized landscape. A combination of white and black, presence and absence, emphatic traces and subtlety of natural forms.
A catalogue has been created, which will be available in the La Tenda of the University located in Botanical Garden, where the work is accompanied by texts by the author, and by Rafael Ferriol and Alvaro de los Ángeles, with reference to poetry, cinema, theater and literature. In the words of the latter author, "the botanical gardens are to nature what an archive is to time. They gather, classify, preserve, exhibit... they indicate the impossibility of their efforts, that fantasy of totality of a perfect archive".
Ferriol Nuria is a Valencian artist who combines teaching with creation.Holder of a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she has participated in dozens of group exhibitions, and has had solo exhibitions in Valencia, Alacant, Castelló, Madrid and Salamanca, among other cities.
The exhibition can be visited at the Exhibition Hall of the Botanic Garden until 26 May. Admission is free. The exhibition is open Monday to Sunday from 10-14:00, and 16-20:00 (May until 21:00).
