The Science Park of the University of Valencia (PCUV) reopens its doors to the public to celebrate, on Saturday 25 May, Exponencia 2013, a day full of entertaining and informative proposals about science, technology and innovation, and one of the most attractive initiatives that take place at the university's Science Park in the dynamics of science literacy. The main novelty of this fifth edition is the launch of the First Week of Innovation, a series of cultural activities complementary to EXPOCIENCIA around the complex and diverse world of innovation.
The principal of the University of Valencia, Esteban Morcillo, has presented this morning Exponencia's programming for this fifth edition. At the ceremony, he was joined by Juan Antonio Raga, director of the PCB, University of Valencia, and Jose Pio Beltran, institutional coordinator of CSIC in Valencia.
José Antonio Raga has listed the main novelties of Expociencia 2013, and stressed that "Expociencia consolidates another year. We did not only maintain its activities for dissemination of science but we also increased them. " The director of the PCB, the University of Valencia has thanked "all those who volunteer and enable Expociencia to continue and grow in spite of the cuts, with almost sixty activities. Scientists, technologists, businesses, entrepreneurs, administrative and service staff are are the real stars. "
During his speech, Esteban Morcillo stressed that "Expociencia is a party where children enjoy and see something very important: science is fun." The president acknowledged that "we need to encourage vocations to the little ones. Do not sell just economics, employability, which are very important. But you also have to sell vocations. And for that we must explain that mathematics is part of everyday life, that physics is on the farm, that most phenomena are explained by physics, chemistry is life, and that our society is a society through advanced science and technology," he said.
"The public university has been of utmost importance for the democratic development of society and promoted social cohesion, since knowledge has become more accessible to all citizens. Getting out of the crisis goes through knowledge. And Expociencia intends to be that. A moment of shared knowledge, open to the whole society," he said.
For his part, José Pío Beltrán, institutional coordinator CSIC in Valencia, has ranked the 5th edition of Expociencia as "the issue of resistance. We are resisting. Spain's government is currently generating a tsunami on the R + D + I. When the water recedes, we will see what is left. It is absolutely necessary to understand that you can not destroy a system that we've been working decades, "he said.
In this line, the president has said "it is not going unnoticed that research is compromised by lack of funding. It will be difficult to rebuild a research network that costs a lot to build that tears at one point despite the efforts of researchers ".

Thus, scientists and entrepreneurs are going to pause their daily work to open our labs, show PCB facilities, and get involved with interesting games as they have done for the last five years. EXPOCIENCIA 2013 will feature again the making of blandiblú, hang gliding simulators, star travel, workshop tasting jellies, exposure of marine animals (jellyfish, sea urchins, molluscs), and, among other things, visitors will discover the magic of amazing new materials .... As a sign of the novelties of this edition there will be a showcase of a 1:50 scale Lego replica of the the ATLAS detector, the great experiment of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which will serve to introduce the public to a virtual tour, live from CERN in Geneva, of this project which is providing scientific successes as the discovery of the Higgs boson.There will be an open an exhibition on Retrocomputing (old game consoles and personal computers), available to users who want to test themselves in the art of spacecraft assembly, and a restoration workshop of this type of machine. Learning and fun are guaranteed for everyone, from kids to adults.

Admission is free and easily accessible, since you can get in your own car - about 15 minutes from the center of Valencia - public transport or taking advantage of the tram line 4 which leaves you at the door of the park (TVV and Science Park Stops). Prior consultation of the routes is recommended by the tour organizers, who will provide extended time to enjoy every activity.
EXPOCIENCIA 2013 expands this year with the First Week of Innovation, a cultural initiative open to all audiences, intended to create discussion around the theme of Innovation, a staple of progress that draws on diverse sources, from science , research and technology, art and creativity in its broadest sense. The program, which proposes five debates in different formats and an attractive conference that will give way to Expociencia 2013, was opened on 14th May at the Palau de Cervero (Pl Cisneros, 4), the Barri del Carme in Valencia.
