Chelva Township welcomed on Thursday a day in which specialists from the University of Valencia put in value the historical and cultural heritage of the Alto Turia, especially the river valley Tuéjar-Chelva.This initiative, organized by the Department for Participation and Territorial Projection of the University and the City of Chelva, in collaboration with municipalities Tuéjar Streets and pursues claim this interesting heritage and educate rural society and / or government of the need to conserve, preserve and put it as a reference value for Valencian interior.
The space of Alto Turia Valencia is famous for its beautiful landscape and its historical and artistic heritage.On the terms of Chelva, Tuéjar Domeño Streets and the remains of the Roman aqueduct of Peña Cortada, were declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 1998.Besides this colossal Roman work, Chelva preserved today in the town itself the imprint left by the people who have lived throughout history: Benacacira Arab Quarter, the Jewish Quarter of Azoque, the Moorish Quarter Arrabal ... Chelva also features iconic architectural buildings and monuments such as the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, considered the Valencian Baroque masterpiece, and a huge water heritage (fountains, washing, mills, canals, etc..) linked to traditional irrigated surrounding the urban core.This set of assets has led to the recent statement by BIC Chelva the villa and its gardens by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Valenciano.
Aware of the great value of this unique cultural heritage in rural Valencia, the Vice Principal for Engagement and Territorial Projection of the University of Valencia and the city of Chelva been organized in collaboration with Provincial Tourism Patronage Valencia Terra i Mar (Provincial Council Valencia) and the municipalities of Tuéjar and Streets, the conference "Education, training, archaeological heritage and value."This is an initiative that aims, through specialists at the University, at emphasizing the rich cultural heritage of the valley-Chelva Tuéjar and justify their need for preservation and conservation and at the same time, reflect on the possibilities of development rural / local from the enhancement of it.
The day started at 9:30 am. Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Chelva.The session was opened by the Vice Chancellor Conference Participation and Territorial Projection, Jorge Hermosilla, along with the mayor of Chelva, Cristina Garcia, mayor of Streets, Angel Valero, and Tuéjar deputy mayor, Maria Carmen Sales Llop.
The first paper, by Valentín Villaverde (Department of Prehistory and Archaeology), addressed "The archaeological heritage as a resource for regional development". Villaverde said the scientific value of the La Quebrada reservoir and said it is a space that should add value "is a site of recent discovery (2004) that is becoming a national benchmark. Then, Jose Luis Jimenez, the same department of the University, gave a lecture on "La Peña Cortada, some exceptional reason supra tourism development".The prehistory and archeology professor explained that Peña Cortada is one of the great attractions of the Alto Turia heritage and if given proper dissemination could become an emblem, the hallmark of the region of Los Serranos.
Then Martin Peña, geographer and research technician at the University of Valencia, focused on "The historic irrigation Tuéjar, Chelva and Streets.Key land and property ". Behind him, Gloria Ródenas (local development technique socio-cultural manager of the City of Chelva), presented his "Analysis and proposals for local development through culture and territory."
Finally, archaeologist and director of the Torrecilla site Chelva, Juan Jose Ruiz, ended the presentation session with a talk on the field he leads. At 13:00 h., Elena Grau, director of the Master in Archaeology from the University of Valencia, led a discussion between speakers and the audience.
