The Forum of Debates of the University of Valencia organised on 21, 22 and 23 May a conference on Historical Memory. Today, Wednesday, 22 March, historian Francisco Espinosa Maestre will give the lecture "The dominant discourse: political revisionism and amnesia" in an event presented by historian Ismael Saz.
On Thursday 23 a book will be the protagonist: “Alambradas, muros y corrientes de aire. El universo penitenciario franquista de postguerra en el País Valenciano” (Ed. Ulleye), from historian Ricard Camil Torres. The presentation will feature speeches by publisher Antoni López, Professor of the University of Valencia Juan Carlos Colomer, and the author himself.
Historical memory is currently and has been for some years an important issue in the public debate. History, memory and fiction bring their work in establishing bridges between past and present. The Second Republic, the Civil War, the Franco dictatorship and the transition have their corresponding analysis in a variety of texts and formats. The agreements and disagreements are obvious. Many associations have joined this initiative by contributing their points of view and acts in a panorama that, despite its advancements, still continues to have more shadows than light.
All lectures will be held at the Centre Cultural La Nau, of the University of Valencia, at 20:00. Admission is free and limited to capacity of the room.
