Sixth Geography Olympiad in Spain

ON 18 APRIL, THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY OLYMPIAD WERE HELD AT THE FACULTY OF GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY. The origin of the Geography Olympiad dates back only six years ago, when in 2009, the First Geography Olympiad is launched at the Balearic Islands Territorial Delegation for the College of Geographers with the participation of Cantabria and Alicante.

In 2010 and 2011 Olympiad became stablished including two phases:

- Phase 1, local students completing the second year of batxillerat (upper secondary school education) go to the Geography Olympiad which consists of 50 multiple choice questions on the subject of Geography of Spain of that year, previous to the Selectividad (Spanish University Access Tests)

- Phase 2, the three winners of each local phase compete in a 100 multiple choice test to be the best Geography of Spain student.

The 2012 national phases took place in Teulada - Moraira; 2013 in Madrid (at the Royal Astronomical Observatory); 2014 in Jaca (University residence of the University Of Zaragoza); and 2015 here in Valencia, at the Faculty of Geography and History.

It is organised by the School of Geography, the Faculty of Geography, the Department of Geography, the Office of the Vice Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, the National Geographic Institute (175º Anniversary of the Topographic Map of Spain Exhibition) EGEA - AGEVAL (Geography students), ESRI Spain and TouristInfo (the tourists office) of the Valencian Agency of Tourism.
