Next Wednesday April 9, the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Valencia will host the conference "Sustainable heritage: common capabilities", a seminar dedicated to exploring new perspectives on cultural heritage from the perspective of sustainability, ethics and the transformative capacity of communities.

The day will start with the intervention of Pau Rausell, coordinator of Econcult and professor in the Department of Applied Economics, who will offer the inaugural conference entitled "Beyond the commodification of heritage", in which he will reflect on the limits of heritage policies focused on market value and propose an approach based on human capacities and cultural rights. Throughout the day, several interventions will take place by professionals and academics who work from community action, artistic education or ethical heritage management: Marisa Vázquez i Alejandro Villar (UV) will raise a conversation about heritage in emergency and emerging, a critical look at current patrimonialization processes. Belén Ulloa Saldaña (PANACEA, Santander) will share experiences about the activation of heritage from the local community. Elena Sanmartin (PLANEA – Art and School Network) will address the connections between arts, education and heritage. Manel Miro (Stoa, Barcelona) will reflect on the ethical considerations in the presentation of cultural heritage. Adrià Besó (UV) will talk about the reinterpretation of the industrial past as a new heritage reference. Alejandra Boni (UPV) will exhibit thehuman capabilities approach as a framework for a new reading of cultural heritage. The day will end with presentation of the book "Cultural Heritage: ethics, capabilities and sustainability", in charge ofEster Alba i Ximo Revert, and with a open dialogue moderated by the latter, in which they will participate Mar Gaitan i Arabella Leon. This seminar, from free participation, is coordinated by the Department of Art History of the University of Valencia and is part of a line of work that advocates for heritage management models that are more inclusive, fair and connected to social and territorial realities.
