Gleise will join the Econcult team from September 2022 to February 2023, on a research stay for her PhD thesis investigating Cultural Policies in Brazil, especially during the period of the Bolsonaro Government (2019-2022).
Gleise Oliveira has a degree in Communication with a specialisation in Communication and Culture Production from the Universidade Federal de Badia / Brazil (UFBA-Brazil), and an MBA in Project Management from the Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS-Brazil). She holds a Master's degree and is a PhD student in the Postgraduate Programme in Culture and Society (postcultura/UFBA). Since her scientific initiation, she has been dedicated to the subject of Cultural Policies and has been guided by Prof. Dr. Antonio Albino Canelas Rubim.
In summary, the researcher assesses that the cultural policy of the Bolsonaro government is: "A cultural policy that will deny its own institutional existence but will orientate, throughout the government, sensitive and cultural issues in a broader sense, stimulating a constant cultural war and/or dispute".
As part of his stay in Econcult, on 15 February he held a seminar at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia to talk about his research, presenting the progress and work that has been done so far. The seminar was attended by a wide range of people and generated interesting debates on the subject in question. The seminar, with the words of Pau Rausell, director of Econcult, is expected to be repeated.
