Last Thursday, at the La Rambleta Cultural Centre, the roundtable “Cridem pel Clima” brought together voices from the cultural sector to reflect on the role of culture in addressing the climate emergency.
The session, held at 6:30 p.m., featured Raül Abeledo (Econcult – University of Valencia), Armand Llácer, Melisa Waingberg, and Pilar Almenar.
The discussion revolved around a central idea: “Culture is not a commodity; culture is a right.” Participants discussed the precariousness of the cultural sector and the pressure to produce increasingly large projects, when the real challenge is to make them better, more conscious, and more humane. As one participant summed up: “More is not better. Better is better.”

Call for a collective cultural model driving social and environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, Raül Abeledo emphasised that “the real ability of culture to drive the green transition depends on a systemic conception of culture as part of sustainable development.” He added that “this shift requires an ethics of care and limits, moving from anthropocentrism to an ecological, frugal, and moderate perspective, orienting values and practices towards sustainability.”
The event concluded with a concert by Josu Miró, closing an inspiring evening of ideas and commitments. “Cridem pel Clima” left a shared message: building a *fairer and more sustainable cultural model —socially, economically, and environmentally— is a collective effort already underway.
