  • The recent publication on the Demetrio Ribes Chair is dedicated to one of the most important engineers of the 19th century in our country, Lucio del Valle. He is also the author of very relevant works such as the road Madrid-València by Las Cabrillas, the Elisabeth II canal or the lighthouses of delta del Ebro. He worked on the district of València between 1840 and 1851 where he was tasked with very important public works. Due to his job, Lucio wrote in his diary the daily aspects and challenges he encountered at work.

    As a result of this manuscript, the author Inmaculada Aguilar helps us immerse in the Golden Age of public work in the 19th century and brings to us a reflexion on the life and work of the engineer Lucio del Valle during his stay in València. His work focuses on roads (not only the projection but also the pawn squares, the challenges due to the weather, the workshops and stations during construction, etc) and it is specially focused in the Las Cabrillas one but also in the port works of El Grau and Cullera, the line of the optical telegraph in the province or the risks and the Vlaencian public works.

    The edition is complimeted with the full digitalisation of the unpublished manuscript of Lucio del Valle, in DVD, which transformas the publication into an important bibliographic and archive source for researches who want to delve in the lifw and work of the engineer.
