Today has been a special day at the Language Centre of the University of Valencia (Centre d’Idiomes UV), a place that offers much more than English or Valencian classes and official exams. This centre embodies the true university spirit: academic exchange, cultural diversity, and public service for learning European languages beyond the most common ones.

The event featured Alexander Grimm, administrative director and professor at Martin Luther University in Hall, and Caroline Zwilling, a student in collaboration with the Centre d’Idiomes. They explained how universities work together so that students and teachers can spend weeks learning in a university language centre both in Spain and abroad. Imagine starting a German course in Valencia and continuing it in Germany with full cultural immersion.

We also heard from David García Baviera, Spanish and German teacher and translator, who shared his experience teaching Spanish to international students from Halle.

Finally, professors Catherine Verburgh (Ghent) and Cristina Agua-Mel (Coimbra) highlighted the importance of Dutch and Portuguese, especially for students preparing for Erasmus mobility. At the Language Centre, languages are not only tools but bridges to friendship, love, and a true European identity.
