The Language Centre of the University of Valencia is pleased to announce the arrival of a group of American students who will participate in the intensive Spanish course, which will be held from May 30 to June 30, within the framework of the “Hispanic Studies” program, in which the International Studies Abroad Agency (ISA) takes part. This program, promoted since 2013 by the Department of Spanish Philology of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in Spanish culture and language, providing them with an enriching experience and meaningful learning.
The University of Valencia is the third university in Europe in the reception of international exchange students. This highlights the quality of service offered by the University when it comes to offering high level teaching to students who come from different countries, both inside and outside the European framework.
The intensive Spanish course at the Language Centre has been designed to provide foreign students with a solid foundation in Spanish language, or “Spanish as the second language”, as the director of the centre Pedro Morillo says. Students are divided into two groups, according to the level: “Intermediate Spanish” and “Advanced Spanish”. The “Intermediate Spanish” program is made up of the subjects “Spanish Culture” and “Spanish Grammar”, while the “Advanced Spanish” program includes the subjects “Panorama of Spanish Literature”, “Spanish Cinema” and “Spanish Culture”. All subjects are 45 teaching hours and include an evaluation of the contents. Classes will be taught at the Language Centre of the University of Valencia, whose facilities have all the necessary equipment to make learning comfortable and effective.
During this month, American students will immerse themselves in an authentic language environment and participate in dynamic classes and extracurricular activities to improve their language skills. In addition, they will have the opportunity to interact with native Spanish speakers and learn about Valencia's rich history and traditions.
The Language Centre has a “highly qualified teaching team, which has experience in teaching students who come on exchange within the framework of the ERASMUS program,” said the coordinator of the program Virginia Gonzalez , as a representative of the Department of Spanish Philology of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the UV. Thus, teachers are oriented to facilitate the learning of Spanish in an effective way.
The classes focus on the development of oral and written communication skills, as well as on the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, going deeper into the subjects of Spanish art, culture, cinema and literature. Students will also participate in hands-on activities, such as guided tours of Valencia landmarks and cultural activities, which will allow them to apply their knowledge in real contexts.
“Today, traveling to another country, studying another language at another university, is a privilege. In the words of the program coordinator, “Being able to live in a different city, with different customs and lifestyle, is an honor. That is why we have to take advantage of this privilege and this luck”.
The entire team of the Language Centre has prepared for the group of US students to enjoy the opportunity to immerse themselves in Spanish culture and improve their language skills in a meaningful way.
