These are tests in which the student constructs the answer, so a standard marking procedure will be necessary, through the design of a precise and concrete coding guide that leaves as little room as possible for subjective assessment, such as checklists and rubrics. These should include learning objectives and levels of achievement. The specification table mentioned in the exams tab is very useful for their elaboration.

Holistic or analytical rubrics can be constructed. Holistic rubrics consider student performance as a whole using a descriptive scale. Analytical rubrics break down the activities into several indicators and are useful when a detailed analysis of each of the sub-competences associated with the activity is desired.

Advantages of using rubrics:

  • They provide a formative dimension to assessment, they are not a mere grading instrument.
  • They give feedback to students on their level of performance.
  • They provide greater objectivity to correction.

Disadvantages

  • Their elaboration is complex.
  • They must be under constant review.
