These are tests in which the student selects the correct one from a number of options. When preparing for this type of test, bear in mind the following recommendations:

A) Choice of content to be assessed

1. It should be a representative sample of the content of a specification table, avoiding trivial items.

2. The representation should mark how simple or complex, concrete or abstract, rote or reasoning the item should be, as well as how it should be expressed.

B) Expression of content in item

3. The main point must be expressed in the statement. Each option is a complement which must agree grammatically with the statement.
4. The syntax or grammatical structure must be correct. Avoid items that are too short or long, ambiguous or confusing, and avoid negative expressions.
5. Semantics should be adjusted to the content and the persons being assessed.

C) Option construction

6. The correct option should be only one, accompanied by credible distracters.
7. The correct option must be spread across the different locations.
8. The more options are included, the more difficult it is to achieve plausibility.
9. The options should be displayed vertically.
10. The set of options for each item should be structured.
11. The options should stand alone, without overlapping or referring to each other. Therefore, the options "all of the above" and "none of the above" should be avoided.
12. No option should stand out from the rest either in content or appearance.
