The EBA disposes of an outdoor aquatic mesocosms station. These experimental systems with more than 1 m3 enable the development of studies in semi-natural conditions, having a close connection with the environment of the L’Albufera Natural Park.
The mesoscosms enable to analyse complex ecological processes under controlled conditions without losing the environmental realism characteristic of fieldwork. These systems make it possible to investigate aquatic population and community dynamics, biogeochemical cycles, trophic interactions, and the response of the ecosystem under different types of pressure, including pollution and climate change.

The EBA mesocosms constitute an infrastructure for developing research on aquatic ecology, limnology, biodiversity, and preservation, as well as carrying out long-term experiments and comparative studies with other aquatic ecosystems in similar conditions to the environment ones.
The mesocosms facilities of the EBA are part of the red internacional AQUACOSM* a European infrastructure that connects experimental facilities aimed at studying aquatic ecosystems and promotes international scientific cooperation with research base don mesocosms.
