The L’Albufera Biological Station (EBA) is organised following an inter-institutional cooperation model, which combines specialised scientific leadership and coordination between public administrations. This frame guarantees the public nature of the project, the quality of the activities developed, and its coherence with the preservation goals of the L’Albufera Natural Park.
The EBA’s executive direction corresponds to the direction of the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBE) at the Universitat de València, which acts as the scientific model of the station. Within this context, the Scientific Commission of the ICBiBE plays a key role in the coordination, evaluation, and monitoring of the research activities related to the station, ensuring the scientific quality of the projects and its adaptation to EBA’s goals.
This structure enables guaranteeing that the decisions related to scientific planning, the use of infrastructures, and the integration of new lines of research are adopted with academic and scientific excellence criteria.
The institutional development of the project is assembled by a Monitoring Commission, formed by representatives of the Generalitat Valenciana, the València City Council, and the Universitat de València. This Commission supervises the implementation of the agreement, makes it easier to coordinate the participating institutions, and watches over the fulfilment of the strategic objectives of the station.
The presidency of the Commission belongs to the representatives of the Gerneralitat Valenciana, while the secretary is carried out by the representatives of the València City Council, as established in the agreement. The Commission meets periodically to monitor the development of the EBA, to ensure the fulfilment of its strategic objectives of the station, and to guide the activities that contribute to the consolidation and development of the L’Albufera Biological Station.
The EBA is not an independent entity, but a public scientific infrastructure developed within the frame of an inter-administrative agreement. Its performance is based on the cooperation between university and public administrations, which enables guaranteeing institutional stability, scientific exactitude, and a direct connection between research and environmental management.
