Research Group in Zoology - ZOORECERC

Reference of the Group:

GIUV2013-019

Description of research activity:
The research activity of the ZOORECERC group is confined to five main lines of research: Entomology, Herpetology, Hydrobiology, Malacology and Animal Parasitology. The Entomology line develops its work in three other sub-lines: natural and applied biological control of pest insects by means of predatory and parasitoid insects in any environment, various aspects of the faunistic of dipteran, odonatan and hymen-opteran insects, and arthropods of veterinary-medical interest, the latter in collaboration with the CEU Cardenal Herrera (Moncada, Valencia). The Herpetology line focuses on the study of the distribution, conservation and environmental impact of amphibians and reptiles. The Hydrobiology line mainly studies the interaction between aquatic organisms and the surrounding abiotic and biotic environmental factors (aquatic ecology), although it also develops research for the improvement of commercial aquaculture. The Malacology line deploys its research on molluscs, both living and fossil, also including the study of remains found in archaeological contexts. Finally, the Animal Parasitology line deals with the knowledge of the parasitic communities of amphibians and reptiles from...The research activity of the ZOORECERC group is confined to five main lines of research: Entomology, Herpetology, Hydrobiology, Malacology and Animal Parasitology. Scientific-technical goals:
  • Publicacion de resultados cientificos. Transferencia de resultados cientificos. Asesoramiento y Consultoria. Desarrollo de Proyectos I+D. Formacion

Research lines:
  • Hydrobiology.1) Study of aquatic ecology based on the interaction between organisms and their abiotic and biotic environ-ments. 2) Improvement of species husbandry and management practices, with the development of new emerging crops, technologies for sustainable food production and economic resources in the field of commercial aquaculture.
  • Malacology.Study of molluscs from different aspects: diversity, systematics, phylogeny, morphology, ecology, conservation, parasitic disease vectors, invasive and/or pest molluscs, palaeontology and archaeozoology
  • Animal Parasitology.Study of amphibian and reptile parasites from different aspects: taxonomy, morphology, ecology, phylogeography and evolution.
  • Herpetology.Study of amphibians and reptiles, their chorology, their parasites, the conservation state of their populations, their threats and the introduction of invasive species.
  • Entomology.Study of predatory and parasitoid insects as natural enemies of pests caused by other insects from different aspects: systematics, morphology, anatomy, ecology and conservation. Methodologies for biological and integrated control of insect pests in agricultural, forestry and urban environments. Faunistics and conservation of diplurans, odonates and hymenopterans.
