Our group studies new materials of an organic and inorganic hybrid nature from a crystalline engineering approach. We approach both the design and the synthesis and advanced characterisation of these by studying different scales from nanomaterials to crystalline solids. Starting from a structural study of the materials, we address their properties and their possible applications, focusing on fields such as gas absorption and separation, encapsulation and controlled release of biomolecules and the study of electronic properties (magnetism, conductivity and luminescence).
- Porous hybrid materials. We synthesise new crystalline materials with intrinsic and extrinsic porosity, ranging from nanoparticles to macroscopic crystals for application in energy, the environment and biomedicine.
- Bidimensional materials. From a coordination chemistry approach, we prepare 2D materials, studying their electronic properties.
- Biocomposites and nanoparticles. We prepare biocomposites and nanoparticles based on MOF materials for the encapsulation and controlled release of biomolecules.
