Our group's research activity focuses on analysing the factors that affect the psychological well-being of people of all ages and that affect their mental health, both in Spain and in Colombia. In this sense, drug use can be due to mental health problems on many occasions and in the case of younger people, they are related, among other issues, to problems with self-esteem and assertiveness, in addition to influencing factors related to gender stereotypes. We specifically direct our research towards the study of the protective factors that favor and enhance people's psychological well-being, taking into account gender differences. We also study the factors associated with the onset of alcohol and other drug use in younger people, especially among those who start using them in adolescence. On the other hand, we develop and/or adapt reliable and valid measurement instruments that serve to evaluate people's psychological well-being and allow comparisons between countries, as well as measurement instruments that also allow the evaluation the gender factors associated with consumption behaviours in adolescence so that, once implemented in existing, their effectiveness can be objectively...Our group's research activity focuses on analysing the factors that affect the psychological well-being of people of all ages and that affect their mental health, both in Spain and in Colombia.
- Factors that affect psychological well-being and mental health in Spain and Colombia. The aim is to analyse the factors that affect the psychological well-being of people of all ages, both in Spain and in Colombia, and that affect people's mental health, proposing preventive measures that can be used in both countries. The gender perspective is also taken into account.
- Development of measuring instruments in social and health sciences. The aim is to develop and/or adapt reliable and valid measurement instruments that allow comparisons between countries to be made in order to analyse cross-cultural differences in factors related to psychological well-being and the onset of alcohol consumption in men and women. For this purpose, gender and cross-cultural measurement invariance studies are carried out, in addition to the study of the psychometric properties of the measurement instruments in each country.
- Selective prevention of alcohol consumption in adolescents and young people. The aim is to study the risk factors that affect the initiation and continuance of alcohol consumption behaviours in adolescents and young people, as well as the protective factors that prevent consumption. Although young people's motivations for consumption may be largely the same, it is likely that new different reasons will appear in girls. Since at present girls who start consuming alcohol do so in greater quantities than boys of the same age, it has been considered necessary take into account the gender perspective at all times. To this end, previously developed and/or adapted gender- and cross-culturally-invariant measurement instruments will be used to evaluate these motivations, as well as the results of the possible prevention programmes that are implemented in each country.
