The Macromolecules and Colloids for Sustainable Materials group of the University Institute of Materials Science (ICMUV) develops its research in the design, synthesis and characterisation of different types of polymeric and colloidal materials, including epoxy resins, polyurethanes, organic-inorganic hybrid systems and conductive polymers. We also study the preparation and application of microscopic and nanoscopic particles and capsules, both organic as well as inorganic and hybrid. In addition, hybrid materials and nanocomposites based on lignocellulosic biomass components are developed, highlighting the importance of the interface in the compatibility of phases of different natures. We are currently participating in research projects funded by national and international organisations, such as the Government of Spain, the Regional Government of Valencia, the Max Planck Society (Germany) and private companies. In addition to research activities, our group is also dedicated to the training of students and young researchers. - Sintesis y caracterizacion de materiales polimeros y de sistemas coloidales para diversas aplicaciones.
- Development of polymer and hybrid colloids for applications in functional materials and encapsulation of active substances.Synthesis and application of functional hybrid systems for the sustainable use of resources. We use colloidal pathways involving heterophasic systems for the preparation of hybrid nanoparticles and nanocapsules.
- Development of thermoelectric materials for energy recovery. The objectives pursued are the development and characterisation of organic, inorganic and hybrid materials to be used in thermoelectric devices to obtain energy from temperature differences for high and low temperature applications.
- Development of lignin-derived carbon materials for energy storage. This line pursues the development of composite materials based on carbon nanostructures to improve the capacity and sustainability of energy storage devices.
- Thermoplastic polyurethanes: design of new materials and characterization.Different types of polyurethanes are synthesised and characterised from a morphological, structural, thermal, mechanical perspective to determine their properties.
