Description of research activity:
The main objective of "The Alan Watson Group: The Making of Western Law" (WESTLAW) research group is an interdisciplinary and comparative study of law in the Western tradition. Given the twofold aspect of law, static and dynamic, and taking into account that law is part of culture, this group aims to investigate law throughout its evolution, and not only in its origins, thus also dealing with its present challenges. To do this, a multidisciplinary and comparative methodological analysis is essential to understand and make proposals for improvement for the future. For this reason, the research group is made up of scholars from different branches of law, both historical and current, both in the private and public sphere, thus promoting an interdisciplinary approach that is essential to diagnose problems whose scope transcends the strict limits of a single legal discipline. In addition, given the similarities of the legal systems in force in the Western world, a comparative analysis is necessary to broaden perspectives and understand the diversity of possible solutions to the same problem.
