The Research Group referred to in this application is called the European Union Observatory. This is a topic on which the applying research group has been working for several years with the support of various grants and regional, national and international research projects. In the current phase of the research group's development of activities, the focus entends from the study of the European Union as a global actor in international relations, through the study of the European Union and its fundamental values, which allows an entire areas of study belonging to general international law to be incorporated, to its essential work on environmental protection. The main element of the research group's activity is, as its name indicates, the observation of the European Union, not only as an international organisation, but as a setter of rules and an agent in international relations. Given that the research group is mainly composed of internationalists specialised in law and international relations, special attention will be paid, among other issues, to the impact of the European Union and its relationship with the various sectors of international law (international economic law,...The Research Group referred to in this application is called the European Union Observatory. Given that the research group is mainly composed of internationalists specialised in law and international relations, special attention will be paid, among other issues, to the impact of the European Union and its relationship with the various sectors of international law (international economic law, international human rights law, international environmental law and international labor law), conceptual and regulatory developments at international and European level in the areas of the environment, human rights and international criminal law, focusing on the new legal instruments that have been adopted recently and those that will be adopted in the coming years. Finally, we will analyse the values that both the international community, on the one hand, and the European Union, on the other, are considering necessary to govern their relations and, therefore, are worthy of legal protection at international, European and national level. The results of the research will be translated into scientific publications, whether articles included in national or international or monographs published by publishers of excellence.
