Our group works on the study of neurogenesis and neurodegeneration by analysing the mechanisms involved in neural signalling in all types of cells of the nervous system (astrocytes, neurons, oligodendrocytes and microglia) and their pathologies, focusing mainly on Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We have published numerous articles in high-impact journals indexed in the Journal Citation Report (JCR). The members of the group come from different degrees in health sciences, including medicine, nursing and podiatry, to achieve a broader view of the areas to be analysed. List of research lines - Intercellular signalling and physiological mechanisms involved. - Physiology and pathophysiology of neurogenesis and neurodegeneration. - Physiology and pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease. - Physiology and pathophysiology of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - Pathophysiology of drugs and medicines used to prevent the development of Alzheimer's disease. Currently our group has an active research project called "Donación para el tratamiento mediante estimulación cerebral para la prevención del Alzheimer" (Donation for brain stimulation treatment for the prevention of...Our group works on the study of neurogenesis and neurodegeneration by analysing the mechanisms involved in neural signalling in all types of cells of the nervous system (astrocytes, neurons, oligodendrocytes and microglia) and their pathologies, focusing mainly on Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The funding entity is the Oskar Fischer Prize (James J. Truchard). Duration: from 2018 until the or until 31/12/2025. Corresponding to $100,000. Specific code: 20180268. A human study on the use of a cold laser to allow greater activation of the mitochondria of brain cells and thus achieve a decreased development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease has already been completed under this project and in collaboration with the neurology service of the Peset Hospital in Valencia. A study is currently underway on type III diabetes, as the diabetes that occurs in Alzheimer's patients is called and which we believe could be a consequence or perhaps a cause of the disease. The first article on the subject was published last year (November 2022). Another line of research that is being carried out is the cell death that occurs in the special Gomori astrocytes found in large quantities in the hippocampus, amygdala and entorhinal cortex, which are areas where neurodegeneration begins in Alzheimer's disease. The aim is to analyse the presence of these cells in these areas and their proximity to the amyloid plaques that are characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. In addition, the slightest involvement of these cells with respect to non-Gomori astrocytes will be analysed in relation to the oxidative stress and inflammation that is characteristic of Alzheimer's disease.

- Physiology and physiopathology of the neurogenesis and neurodegeneration.Study of the physiology of the nervous system and its associated pathologies. Study of pathologies of the nervous system such as Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. For this purpose, inflammation, oxidative stress and the signalling pathways involved are analysed.
