The research group «Research Innovation in Clinical and Health Psychology» was born from the experience and interest of its co-directors (Dr. Beatriz Gil Juliá and Dr. Jesús Castro Calvo) to provide a novel, innovative and methodologically more robust point of view to the studies developed in the field of Clinical and Health Psychology. Within this field, its research activity focuses on two areas: one related to the study of sexuality and addictions and the other to the psychological processes of adaptation to chronic disease or challenging circumstances and stages. Both lines of research would share common principles, such as the implementation of new methodologies that allow overcoming the limitations of existing literature, and doing so through scientifically more robust and transparent practices (such as pre-registration of studies and other

The line of research on sexuality and addictions, which we have called «Research Innovation in Sexuality and Addictions», would be led by Dr. Jesús Castro. The line of research on sexuality and addictions, which we have called «Research Innovation in Sexuality and Addictions», would be led by Dr. Jesús Castro. In this field, the members of the research team have extensive experience in the development of studies on sexual compulsivity in general (prevalence, characterization, correlates, assessment and treatment) and on the use and abuse of various online sexual activities (especially problematic use of pornography). Currently, the team is focusing all its efforts on the development of a line of research that seeks to explore the link between mood (more specifically, dysphoric mood states) and problematic use of pornography, and how good emotional regulation could play an important role in preventing or improving the symptoms of this clinical picture.
The second line of research ("Research Innovation in Psychology and and Challenging life stages") led by Dr. Beatriz Gil Juliá, would focus on the development of studies that add new knowledge to the existing corpus regarding psychological adjustment in people with chronic disease (e.g., oncological) and those who face challenges, either derived from processes of illness (e.g., cancer survivors) or from important stages (e.g., adolescence). In this regard, the team members have experience in the study of aspects ranging from coping style (e.g., proactive or reactive) and its interaction with different variables and personality dispositions to the analysis of factors that contribute to psychological adjustment in these people.
