TEGEM-IOR. Business Management Techniques and Application of Operations Research to Real-World Problems - TEGEM-IOR

Reference of the Group:

GIUV2025-662

Description of research activity:
The TEGEM research group develops its research in the field of solving real problems through the use of Operational Research techniques under the following fundamental lines of work: Project Sequencing and Planning, Machine Sequencing, Real Time Planning of tasks and resources, Logistics and Warehouse Management and Hospital Process Management. In all of them, work is carried out incorporating the advantages of the use of emerging technologies into the solutions, so that the solutions improve existing processes. Real-time information is incorporated into the development of metaheuristic algorithms so that problems can be solved online. On the other hand, the team has worked and continues to work on classic problems such as RCPSP and vehicle routing, defining new procedures for their resolution and incorporating features such as delivery dates, interruption, new relationships between activities defined by percentages of work and real time that allow greater complexity to be incorporated into the resolution of real problems. Wherever possible, research is carried out in collaboration with companies in different fields. Wherever possible, research is carried out in collaboration with companies in different fields. The team has experience in sectors as diverse as the naval sector, furniture, service centres, warehouse logistics and hospital processes. In all these actions, the objective has been to respond to specific management problems that could not be solved with standard software. To develop models and decision-support tools applicable to real-world problems in production planning, operations sequencing, hospital management, logistics, and service centres. The objectives include formulating mathematical models adapted to real cases, designing efficient algorithms, and validating the solutions through practical application in collaboration with companies and institutions.

Scientific-technical goals:
  • Dar respuesta cientifica a diferentes problemas reales que puedes ser abordados desde el campo de la insvestigacion Operativa

Research lines:
  • Hospital Management. The aim of this line of work is to investigate how modern technologies can be used to improve the quality and operational efficiency of health services. This includes improving patient care, optimising hospital processes and resource utilisation.
  • Production Planning and Control.Line of research aimed at solving real problems in production planning and control for companies in our industrial environment. Based on specific cases, we develop computer tools to aid decision-making in planning processes.
  • Service Centre Management.Development of IT tools for the comprehensive management of Service Centres with the aim of facilitating, automating and streamlining their daily activities through the use of Information and Communication Technologies.
  • Logistics Process Management.Planning and control of storage facilities with the aim of optimising logistics operations: storage space, handling space, material transport equipment and operators.
