The Session will be opened by the Principal of the Universitat de València, Esteban Morcillo Sánchez, and by the general director of  Universidades de la Generalitat, Josefina Bueno.

 

During the meeting, the research staff from Harvard and John Hopkins University and institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), among others, will talk about their experience as mentors of students in European universities in general and Spanish universities in particular.  The internationalization of Spanish universities, young talent, patents, communication or professional image online, are only some of the subjects to be discussed during the conference “Global evaluation for professional success”.

 

Lectures, round tables and workshops are some of the activities to take place throughout the day. Among other things, the meeting will analyse university mentorship, with a representative of each of the four areas in which UV participates: Biomedicine, Engineering, Economics and Philology. The event is addressed to students from the universities which form the consorcium. There will also be many participants in the IMP programme, and there will be the handing out of diplomas to mentors who took part in the 2015/2016 programme. IMFAE/IMP grants will also be offered. UV has taken part in the programme with 32 students during the academic year 2015/2016.

 

The vice-rector of Internationalisation and Co-operation of Universitat de València, Guillermo Palao, has highlighted that through the activity destined for students of the last years of undergraduate and postgraduate studies (master’s degree) -”The University wants to give priority to research contracts with various universities, and especially to mentorship provided by international centres in the Boston area.  The programme complements the institutional relationship that we have with Berkley”.  Guillermo Palao has also added: “We want to encourage work contracts for young students of the last years of undergraduate and master´s studies, promote mobility and propel future agreements for the development of research projects.

 

The conference will be opened by Guillermo Palao, vice-principal of Internationalisation and Co-operation; Zafira Castaño, president and co-founder of IMFAHE foundation (International Mentoring Foundation for the Advancement of Higher Education); and Antonio Valldecabres, district director of Valencian Community of Santander Bank.  Representatives of FECYT, as well as CRUE and Alberto López from Fulbright Foundation Spain will also play a part in the event.

 

Jordi Garcés, the chair of the Department of Social Work and Social Services at UV and chair Príncipe de Asturias from Georgetown university 2014/2015 will participate in the event. Also, Francisco Michavila Pitarch, chair of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the director of the UNESCO chair Management and University Politics, who will give a lecture titled “The internationalization of Spanish universities”   The meeting is backed by the General Foundation of the Universitat de València and funded by Santander Bank.

 

Among the goals of the Foundation IMFAHE, is that of promoting excellence, rigor, transparency and an innovative, creative spirit among university students, as well as making new professional paths abroad more accessible to young Spanish talent.
