‘Les dones de Sade’ returns for the 25 anniversary of ASSAIG, drama club of the Universitat de València

ASSAIG (Drama Club of the Universitat de València) presents the revival of ‘Les dones de Sade’ from this Wednesday, 9 March, to the 11 March, at 19:30 in Matilde Salvador Room in La Nau. The staging belongs to the theatre programming of the Universitat, to commemorate the 25 anniversary of the group and to the activities organised on the occasion of Women Week.

Directed by Pep Sanchis, the show was performed for the first time in 1997 and it represents one of the major milestones in the history of ASSAIG. This staging has been recognised with awards, like the contest of Teatre Vila de Mislata and with a tour which went over several Spanish cities, with presence in big theatre plays, like for example the Grec Festival of Barcelona. ‘Les dones de Sad’ returns to stages after 19 years with the participation of two actress of the original direction and cast.

The play, a free version of the play ‘Madame de Sade, by Yukio Mishima, is stared by six women six representations of the Marquis of Sade, six ways to understand the human and social relationships in France at the end of the XVIII century. 

Each one lives a different relationship with the Marquis and, in a text with lots of feelings and passions, they face pure love, hypocrisy, hate, injustice, frivolity, brutality, tenderness, innocence and corruption.

ASSAIG, created by 1990 to represent the Universitat de València inside performing arts, is one of the  most important drama groups in the Spanish university scene.  With ‘Les dones de Sade’, the group celebrates its 25 anniversary with the revival of three of its more representatives shows: 'Per Sant LLuc’ (For Saint Lluc),  ‘El dia que Bertolt Brecht va morir a Finlàndia’ (The day Bertolt Brecht died in Finland) and ‘Parelles de fet’ (Unmarried partner), chosen because they supposed inflexion points in training trajectory. 

Before the play of next Friday 11, will take place a forum, in the line of the play, at 18:00, in Seminars Rooms in the Cultural Centre La Nau, Free entrance until complete capacity.
