On Wednesday, Universitat de València presented the “Serenates 2015” festival. A number of 10 concerts, which is celebrated between 24th June and 6th July in the Senate of the Cultural Centre La Nau of Universitat de València.

The “Serenates” festival is performed since the 80’s and is coproduced by Universitat de València and the Culture-arts Music Unit. The festival counts on the collaboration with the City Council, AVL, Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València, Fundació Bancaixa, Fundació Banc Sabadell and Heineken Spain. This Wednesday, Antonio Ariño, the Vice-Principal of Culture and Equality of Universitat de València and José Luis Moreno, General Director of Culture-arts, presented the programming of the festival in a press conference celebrated in La Nau.
The idea of using the Senate of the historical building of Universitat as a framework to offer to the Valencian public a summer open air musical festival -which specially dedicates its programming to composed and performed music principally by Valencian musicians- had since the first editions a very good welcome from the public.
For three decades of history, many works have released in this festival, or have met again after centuries of oblivion in several Valencian music files. Furthermore, many Valencian groups found in this scene their artistic debut, as this festival has become a platform for the promotion and spread of one of the greatest Valencian cultural goods: music.
Ariño emphasized the importance of two very important characteristics in this festival, the high presence of young musicians, more than 70% of the participants and also pointed that Serenatas is used to recognize devoted musicians, and if last year Maria del Mar Bonet performed, this year Carles Santos will inaugurate “Serenates”, which will receive the medal of Universitat of Valencia a day before, the “Nit de Sant Joan” (San Juan Night).
During the press conference, both Ariño and Moreno, paid tribute to Inmaculada Tomás, an assistant manager of Culture-arts-Music, which could not participate this year because of health reasons, but who has been an important person in the festival since the beginning and specifically in this edition she inspired the production of Carles Santos.
The programming will start on 24th June with the Valencian musician Carles Santos who, together with the Cor of the Valencian government, will offer the “Cantúria Cantada” show, a summary of all their Chorus work.
On 26th June, the women Chorus “A cau d’orella”, directed by Mònica Perales, will dedicate the concert to the music for women Chorus of the XX and XXI centuries. During the nights of 28th and 29th June, the Orfeón University of Valencia will stage the “Dido & Eneas” opera, by H. Purcell, with a contemporary review by scene Director Amparo Urieta and musical direction by Francesc Valldecabres.
Between 30th June and 3rd July four Spanish University Philharmonic orchestras (Philharmonic Orchestra Universitat de València, on 30th; University of Alacant, on 1st; Murcia, on 2nd July and Granada, on 3rd). During these days, the formations will participate in the “Sinergia” days, organised by Universitat de València for the creation of a networking of Spanish university orchestras.
On 5th July the brass quintet named Spanish Brass together with the Ensemble of metals and percussion of the Young Orchestra of the Valencian government. The festival will end on 6th July with a concert of the Renaissance group of Capella de Ministrers with the “Lo plant d’amor: música per a llegir Roís de Corella” programme.
