An international group of experts will analyze in Valencia the contribution of Paul Ricoeur to the Democratic Ethics and Bioethics

During the days 20, 21 and 22 February, an international group of experts in contemporary ethics will meet at the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of Valencia to analyze the contribution of Paul Ricoeur in Bioethics through the first Congress 'Bioethics and Hermeneutics: deliberative ethics of Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005)', in order to commemorate all over the world the birth of the French philosopher, known for his contributions to building a democratic ethic centered on the ideas of justice, generosity and gratitude.

With the support of the Fonds Ricoeur of Paris, this is the first time that a conference in Valencia is done this way. It brings together international experts which form part of the relevant National Committees of Bioethics. Members of ethics committees in Italy, Portugal, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Mexico, USA and Spain will discuss the contribution of this thinking to the great challenges of democratic societies: justice, aging of the population, recognition of differences, end of life, human rights, neuroscience, interdisciplinarity, limits of technology, human rights, and so on.

The researchers have been attracted by the interest of creating an international working group on Bioethics inspired by the work of Paul Ricoeur. It has the support of the Interuniversity Research Group specialized in applied ethics and the aids granted by the Generalitat Valenciana to the Groups of R+D+I grouped under the name of Prometheus. These groups are characterized by the promotion of quality research on various internationally recognized international calls.

The conference will be inaugurated on Wednesday, 20 February, at 12 hours, by the director of the Fonds Ricoeur, Catherine Goldenstein. It will be closed Friday, 22 February, by professors Thomas Domingo and Diego Gracia, of the Complutense University, and Professor Lazarus Benaroya, an expert on European Union matters for Bioethics and professor at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Along with the master sessions over sixty research papers will be presented coming from everywhere.There are over one hundred and fifty people registered in the area of human sciences and, especially, of the Health Sciences: Medicine, Nursing, and so on.It is the first international conference held in 2013 on the contribution of Paul Ricoeur in bioethics and ethics of democracy.
