Last February 26th, the first Asociación Española de Universidades con titulaciones de Información y Comunicación (ATIC) meeting was celebrated in Facultad de Comunicación at Universidad de Sevilla. 25 Spanish public and private universities are already part of this association. At the same time, the last Conferencia de Decanos (committee of faculty deans) meeting was held, after more than a decade, since the new association will continue in the development of the committee’s functions.

This association, presided by the dean of the Universidad de Málaga’s Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación, Juan Antonio García Galindo, aims at improving the university education in the communication sciences field. The association is aware of the communication professionals are living difficult times. It expressed its concert on the future of Spanish public televisions, which in many cases threatened with marginalization and even closure.

The event was presided by the Universidad de Sevilla’s vice-principal for academic arrangement, Miguel Ángel Castro, and the dean of Communication, Antonio Checa. More than thirty university representatives part of the new association or having in mind their next affiliation attended the event as well.

The Universitat de València’s representative was the full professor in journalism Josep Lluís Gómez Mompart, who is a member of ATIC’s temporary board. This board will operate until next statutory elections are celebrated in October.
