Universitat de València’s Ombuds Officer Carmen Carda is the new President of the State Conference of University Ombudsmen (CEDU). Carmen Carda replaces Rosa María Galán, who was the ombuds officer at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and left the position. The appointement took place during the celebration of the XV Encuentro Estatal de Defensoras/as Universitarios/as in Almería from 19 to 21 September.
Some issues tackled during this meeting were the assessment of the performance after the establishment of the degrees and postgraduate courses, the ombuds office as a necessary body in recession times, and the law changes affecting the university. The opening lecture was about ‘La eficiencia económica de las universidades’ (economic efficiency at universities) and was read by Juan Antonio Hernández Armenteros, lecturer of economy at Universidad de Jaén.

Carmen Carda (Vila-real, 1960) has a degree in medicine since 1983 from Universitat de València and a PhD in medicine since 1988 from the same university. She got a second degree in odontology and got her PhD at Universidad de Granada. She is full professor of histology at Universitat de València.
Throughout her career, she has been taking part in the university life. She was Vice-Dean for Studies and Institutional Relations at the medicine and odontology school, member of the university senate, the research committees, strategic plan committee, and member of the commissions that shaped the syllabuses of veterinary science and medicine as well.
