Today, Thursday 11 December, Antoni Ferrando (AVL) gives the lecture El primer libro impreso en Valencia: Les “Trobes en lahors de la Verge Maria” y su contexto (The first printed book in Valencia: Trobes en lahors de la Verge Maria and its context), which will take place in the Aula Magna of La Nau at 19:00 (free admission limited to the capacity of the venue). It is the first literary incunabulum printed in Spain and it is the only copy known in the world.
It was printed in 1474, in the first printing press placed in Valencia. It includes 45 poems in honour of the Virgin (40 in Valencian, 4 in Spanish and 1 in Tuscan), which were launched in a contest that took place in Valencia in 1474 and were gathered by Mosén Bernat Fenollar. Between its writers we can find Jaume Roig, Joan Roís de Corella and Lluís Alcanyís. One of these poems, included by notary Juan Moreno, was written by a woman, whose name, Yolant, is written as an acrostic in this poem.
Last month, the Universitat de València and the Valencian Language Academy (AVL, Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua) started Classics at La Nau a conferences’ series to promote all bibliographic treasures of the Historical Library of the Universitat de València, which keep extraordinary works with an essential importance for history and Valencian culture knowledge. This series, where the lecture of Antoni Ferrando is included, is organised in 15 sessions, from September 2014 to February 2016, every last Thursday, always at the same time, each month.
Before the lecture, the vocal group Lluís Vich Vocalis of Valencia will sing some pieces of the Mystery play of Elche. Lluís Vich Vocalis is a male vocal group specially focused on a cappella music of the Renaissance and the first Baroque. The Universitat de València collaborates in their research and promotion activities of Valencian music heritage.
With this series, the Universitat de València aims to show its bibliographic heritage, not only to important researchers but also to students, lecturers, readers and curious people, so they can enjoy freely these texts and books’ beauty.
