The former director of UNESCO, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, speaks at the UV about Sustainable Development

The former director of UNESCO, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, will speak on 31st January at the Universitat de València. The title of his conference, which is addressed to teachers, is: ‘De los objetivos del Milenio a los Objetivos para el Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS 2030)’. The event will start at 17:00 at the Assembly Hall of the former Faculty of Teacher Training (calle alcalde Reig, 8).

Then, from 18 to 19:30, there will be workshops of sustainability and secondary education, which are addressed to teachers of the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Teaching. The events are framed within the first conference about sustainability and education. The initiative is organised by the Project of Innovation Sustainability and by the Master’s degree in Secondary Education.

Federico Mayor Zaragoza (Barcelona, 1934) was General Director of UNESCO between 1987 and 1999. He is honorary member of Club de Roma and nowadays he is co-president of the Alliance of Civilizations. He is doctor in Pharmacy and full university professor of Biochemistry of the Universidad de Granada. He was minister of Education and Science (1981-1982) in the UCD governments and Member of the European Parliament (1987). As director of UNESCO, his management focused on encouraging projects of peace promotion, human rights and dialogue among cultures. In 1999 he created Fundación por una Cultura de Paz, with which he has continued developing the objectives that he set out to do at UNESCO.
