Enrique Ortí Guillén, Full University Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Valencia and researcher at the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol), has been awarded with the award for Excellence in Research by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ). The award has been granted for its quality and research career for the last five years.

The award, unanimously agreed by the Governing Board of the RSEQ, is given between about 4000 members who excel in their profession. Ortí is one of the five winners of the Award for Excellence in Research 2014, which will be delivered on 7 November in Madrid.

Enrique Ortí is Doctor of Chemistry by the University of Valencia (1985), where he is Professor in the Department of Physical Chemistry, and researcher in the Theoretical Chemistry Research Unit in ICMol. His research line regards the application of quantum chemistry to the theoretical calculation of molecular materials used in devices of organic electronics such as light emitting diodes (OLEDs and LECs) and photovoltaic cells. The quantum chemistry allows an in-depth understanding of the properties of molecular materials and of the experienced electronic and optical processes, which is necessary for optimising the optimization of the device’s performance. He has published 225 articles, placing the value of his index h in 40. Currently he is taking part in several research projects, including a project of excellence in the Valencian Government on ‘Molecular Devices Transmitters of Light and Photovoltaic’, of which he is the Principal Researcher.

The Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry is a non-profit association founded in 1903 whose aim is to promote, develop and disclose the discipline of chemistry.
