María Ángeles Durán, full university professor of Sociology, National Research Prize and Honoris causa doctorate by the Universitat de València, offers this Thursday, 10 December, in the Cultural Centre La Nau, the conference ‘The Future of Attention’. The conference, which will be presented by the Vice-Principal of Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València, Antonio Ariño, will start at 19:00, in the Aula Magna and will be broadcasted in streaming at http://www.uv.es/culturaip

María Ángeles Durán (Madrid 1942) was the first woman in Spain who obtained a Chair on Sociology. She is founder of the University Institute of Women's Studies (UAM), she has been president of the Spanish Federation of Sociology and member of the executive committee of the International Sociological Association.

Doctor Durán has been professor and carried out researches in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Complutense University of Madrid, CEU, Zaragoza, Pontificia Universiade Católica de Río de Janeiro,  University of Cambridge, University of Washington, University of Seattle and the European University Institute of Florence. Durán is research professor of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). 

Among her many awards and prizes, the National Research Prize on Legal, Social and Economic Sciences Pascual Madoz, Gold Medal for Work, Gold Medal of Extremadura and the Protagonistas (Communication Means), Mensajeros de la Paz and Cultura para la Salud Prizes stand out. 

‘Honoris Causa’ doctor by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2008), by the Universitat de València (2012) and by the Universidad de Granada (2013), among her intellectual works stands out her constant effort to open new fields of research, making visible the interdependence between private and public life, as well as the situation of social groups which until now had attracted little interest of Sociology and Economy.

This act is organised by the Office of the Vice-principal for Culture and Equality at the Universitat de València and it is inside the debate cycle ‘Futur Obert: Conferències de Caixa Popular’, which began this year with the collaboration of Caixa Popular and University of Valencia General Foundation.
